About

  • The Walk and Read Club encourages two great habits at the same time: exercise and literacy! The Goal: walk 150 minutes a week (that's just 30 minutes 5 days a week) for 6 weeks. To make the time go faster and build your brain, listen to a book or podcast as you walk. It's easy. Just register in the club and keep track of your progress as you go. You could be the big winner of a Gatlinburg getaway or other great prizes.

  • Get your library card handy and download a free audiobook of a hot new title, check out your favorite author on CD or cassette, or check out our free podcasts of community events and Knoxvillian history. Or download a suggested "listening" list to get you started. It's all available through Knox County Public Library.

  • Check out local parks here, and find a list of Knoxville's beautiful greenways here.

  • Walking is great for you. It's a gentle, low-impact exercise that can ease you into a higher level of fitness and health. Walking can help you lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, raise high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, reduce your risk of or manage type 2 diabetes, manage your weight, improve your mood, and stay strong and fit.

  • The grand prize is a Gatlinburg Getaway Package including passes to Ripley's Aquarium, dinner at the Hardrock Cafe, and a $50 gift certificate at NOC's Great Outpost. Finishers also have the chance to win a pair of shoes from The Runner's Market or a $25 gift certificate at McKay's used bookstore. Learn more here.
